Ecosystem Restoration

Yagasu conducted field trainings on preparing and maintaining nursery, planting mangroves and monitoring the growth and mortality in each village before restoration started. The purpose of the training was to give overview and knowledge on mangrove restoration based on the SOP. The trainings were conducted on two ways communication, especially how to explore local knowledge to do a good planting based on characteristic of each planting site. The trainers also encouraged several people as motivators to other community members and taking lead as a group leader.

The trainings include theory and practices that were carried out directly in the field and given in the simple ways. The training materials include: the SOP of nursery and planting mangroves, information on contracts for nursery works, planting direct propagules and planting mangrove seedlings. The team also demonstrated the planting distance (2 x 2 m) and established the space (4 to 5 m) in between group of planting blocks for silvofishery purposes that give more space for fish/shrimp movement.
