(PROGRAM IMPACTS ON BIODIVERSITY)

  • The stable condition of mangrove ecosystem has conserved 23 species of mangroves, 8 species of mammals, 16 species of reptiles and amphibians, 32 species of invertebrates (crab, shrimp, jelly fish, etc), 73 species of birds, 41 species fishes and 9 species migratory birds.
  • There is a positive correlation between mangrove ecosystem and catchments of fishery production, especially for shrimp and small pelagic, illustrated in the Fozal equation ht = 0.6883Et + 5.23623 Et2. The mangrove ecosystem contributes 27.21% to annual fishery production.
  • The mangrove ecosystem supported the commercial biodiversity: 7 – 12 tons of crab, 3 – 5 tons of shrimp and 500 – 700 tons of fish per week for non-stop production through the year in our project sites in Aceh and North Sumatra.

PROGRAM IMPACTS ON COMMUNITY)

  • Mangrove ecosystem has various direct and indirect values from 648,320 to USD 45,922,675 USD in in each village of project sites.
  • Average income of local community increase 49% from 290 to 406 USD per family per month after 5 years program implementation.
  • Women groups and unfortunate people having social business on silvo-fishery, mangrove food processing, organic batik, mangrove eco-tourism and other micro-family business to support their family income.
  • At least 3.000 small farmers receive direct benefits from carbon agroforestry and 34.000 people receive in-direct impacts on flood and drought prevention, natural resource collection and multiple effects of social business.
  • Multiple economic effects on (i) feasible and profitable village enterprises on cash crops, (ii) improving local community incomes, (iii) revolving fund for sustainable business in the villages, (iv) creating new work-opportunities (men and women group), (v) providing profit sharing for environmental- and social mission.
