Tackling Corona Virus as Not a Big Deal, YAGASU Office Remains Productive Despite Working at Home

Medan, April 2020, Since March 2020 the issue of the spread of COVID-19 or known as Corona began to become a concern for all the people of North Sumatra. Not only that, several circular letters and foresters from the government also bind all offices, schools, institutions to open spaces not to be attended by many people. This is nothing but to prevent the spread of the virus that has not been found antidotes that reportedly can be transmitted easily through physical contact and air. The Sumatra Elephant Foundation (YAGASU) located at Jalan Sei Galang No. 23-25 Medan has implemented the concept of work from home (WFH) following the government's call to reduce outside activities in reducing the potential spread of the corona virus (Covid-19). Work from home or work from home is considered the best solution in the midst of the current outbreak of corona virus. With the latest technology, work no longer needs to be face to face, because everything can be done online.

Meilinda Suriani Harefa as Program Director Yagasu said, "Under these conditions, our priority is of course the health and safety of our employees. Most YAGASU work units have implemented split teams and work from home which can be done through video conference technology. " By utilizing video conferencing solutions such as Zoom Meeting, WhatsApp, Skype and Google Meeting, communication that is usually done in a meeting room or working cubicle can be done easily from each home. This video conference service is provided not only for internal YAGASU Medan employees but to monitor the activities of several employees who are also located in the Aceh branch office Jalan Teuku Di Anjong No. 667 Gampong Jawa Kota Banda Aceh as well as with YAGASU Colleagues in the same region and donors who are outside of Indonesia.

The wisdom of this epidemic also provides learning to internal staff in YAGASU's management and projects to maintain cleanliness, maintain stamina, work efficiently and effectively. Field staff and Chairpersons of field implementation groups who have technical work responsibilities are required to be able to communicate using technology to the maximum extent possible to report conditions of field work progress remotely without constraints and are believed to be in line with the target or output of the work.

In this activity YAGASU usually conducts video conferences twice a week. This video conference service has also been supported by a security system that is guaranteed in accordance with standards and strong encryption algorithms, so that it has become an integrated and reliable solution. "With the use of this video conferencing service, differences in location, distance and time will no longer be a barrier to activities at work. The coordination and communication of employees both in the field and at home is no longer limited to cubicles and in the meeting room, but can be done anywhere so that performance and productivity will be maintained. " Meilinda said.

It is hoped that the COVID-19 virus will soon end so that the face-to-face process in the world of work can be carried out immediately. So far, YAGASU continues to welcome the government's advice and implement all the suggested rules for the benefit of all its employees.
