Governor Edy Rahmayadi planted mangrove seedlings at the Rawa Gebang Market in Langkat Regency, Monday (3/8/2020). The planting of 2020 mangrove trees was held in the framework of the 75th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence and at the same time commemorating World Mangrove Day.

The Governor of North Sumatra (Gubsu) Edy Rahmayadi invited all elements of the community to jointly preserve nature, such as planting and protecting mangroves. Because preserving nature is also a form of worship that is real and beneficial to human life and nature.

Mangroves are useful for preventing coastal erosion and abrasion, contributing to reducing global warming and being able to absorb carbon emissions 4 to 5 times greater than terrestrial forests. Mangroves are also a place to live and a source of food for certain animals to the tsunami buffer. In addition, mangroves also have economic value for the surrounding community.

The government and Yagasu are committed to rehabilitate the damaged mangrove land. Indonesia is a country with the most extensive mangrove forests in the world. Based on the national mangrove map, Indonesia has 3.1 million hectares. There are currently around 2.6 million hectares of mangrove forest in good condition and around 0.67 million hectares in critical condition. This was partly triggered by the expansion of massive ponds, the conversion of mangrove land into plantations, housing, industry and illegal logging.

The Pasar Rawa Mangrove Forest area of 138 hectares is managed by the people who are members of the Yagasu Village Rawa Market Forest Management Institute from 2018 to the present day. Yagasu also always supports the Gebang community to continue their enthusiasm for every restoration activity for a greener earth.

Yagasu had the opportunity to be one of the speakers in the event of grantly receiving seeds contributions that presented competent speakers and Keynote Speker, the Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil.
