Sicanang - Belawan, August 2020, The existence of mangrove forests in coastal areas plays a very important role in the balance of nature and the earth. Both in terms of ecological and environmental, economic and social aspects. Therefore, the government, elements of society and organizations that focus on the environment also work together to protect the existence of plants that are echoed by absorbing a lot of carbon. Various policies and priority programs continue to be promoted through environmental conservation efforts which are hoped to be able to create various solutions to various environmental problems that occur today.

Yagasu Aceh as a Non Government Organization that focuses on restoring mangrove ecosystems in order to create a good ecosystem to support biodiversity, society and the climate, develop programs and carry out various scientific research aimed at protecting the environment and developing community programs in assisting the government in this activity .

World Mangrove Day which is commemorated on July 26, 2020 followed by National Conservation Forest Day which fell on August 7, then the Sumatra Elephant Foundation (Yagasu), which is focused on Mangrove Restoration Activities, also celebrated this special day by holding a photo competition with the theme # WorldMangroveDay2020 related with Mangrove Ecosystems, Landscapes, Biodiversity to Human Interest through the @yagasuaceh Instagram account which has reached nearly 600 followers. 

As the highlight of the event, Yagasu invited the Head of the North Sumatra Environmental Service, Dr. Ir. Binsar Situmorang M.Si. MAP and the Head of Medan City Tourism Office, Mr. Agus Suriyono, were special guests in this environmental event. By still paying attention to health protocols, this tree planting activity was held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 with the winners of the Yagasu Mangrove Photo Competition at Sicanang Belawan Mangrove Tourism.

In addition to tree planting activities, the winners of the competition were invited to do mangrove trails by walking around the mangrove forest and enjoying a typical coastal meal in the form of seafood. Yagasu Program Director, Meilinda Suriani Harefa revealed that Yagasu held a competition as a means to invite residents to care about Mangrove Ecotourism.

"We took 10 of the dozens of participants and all of them we gave them the opportunity to plant Mangrove Trees with the Head of the District, Around the Sicanang Mangrove Forest by Boat Cruiser, Get Gifts in the form of Organic Mangrove Batik Masks and Sandals to Seafood Lunch with all invited guests. Meilinda said that through this competition, she saw that there were still young people who were familiar with Mangrove Forest and had concerns for the environment. who came to the Mangrove Coast.

The mangrove ecotourism activity finally ended with a mangrove trail for 30 minutes, which Yagasu gave an insight into mangroves. Not to forget the Head of the North Sumatra Environmental Service, Dr. Ir. Binsar Situmorang M.Si. MAP also donated 10 trash cans in this activity as a form of support for this positive activity and the presence of an environmental-based educational tourism location, namely Sicanang Belawan Mangrove Ecotourism.
